The Deanshanger Colts U10's will be entering 2 teams into this years tournament.

We will all play on Sunday 11th January starting at 1200, so all players to be at Stantonbury by 1130 to register please. Late players may not get to play.

We get back to our normal training routine for the new year starting Saturday 3rd January.

I will see you all on Tuesday 6th for our first look at 5-a-side preparation.

Hi all, directions for all players, greens and oranges, who are both playing willen junior panthers on either 3/1/09 or 10/1/09.

Our pitches are at Willen Playing Fields - off Dansteed
Way which is one of the roads off Brickhill St. Coming
from the A5 you need to come into Stacey Bushes which is
on Monks Way - keep going towards Newport Pagnell / M1
down Monks Way until you get to Brickhill St - at which
point you turn right onto Brickhill St and then left onto
Dansteed Way. Take a right into Hoopers Gate, go straight
on at the roundabout and you'll find yourself on a
crescent - turn left and follow this all the way round and
you come into the Playing Fields.

Please could you just give a quick call if you are travelling direct to venue. If not we are meeting at deanshanger playing fields 9.00am

League Game 8: Mustangs (4)[7] v Woburn Lions Hurricanes (3)[5]

The Mustangs Under 11's played their eigth league game of the season at home to Woburn Lions Hurricanes.

Players for the Mustangs were:
Adam, Ben, Callum, Charlie, Elle, George, Harry, Jamie, Joshua D, Joshua W, Samuel and Thomas

Missing Squad Players were:
Albrecht, Ryan B, Sid, William

Player of the Match was: JAMIE

The Mustangs Team Captain was: THOMAS.
The Mustangs Vice-Captain was: JAMIE.

Todays goal scorers were:
Ben x 1
George x 4
Harry x 1
Thomas x 1

The first half was very patchy with both teams taking the lead and both teams giving it away with costly mistakes mostly by the Mustangs.

We struggled our way through the first half and it was a case of some players not really interested in playing and showing a lack of commitment and effort which did not help the other players that really did put in the effort and were committed.

The second half saw us start much brighter after a half time chat. We started controlling the game and taking the play to the Lions with the reward of an early goal but then the match lost it's way again with both teams giving the ball a way easily with passes going astray.

Our work rate increased and the tackling was there but we only passed the ball in patches and still some players we happy for others to do the hard work for them.

This was easily a game we could have lost or drawn but luckily we scored at the right times and saw off a late rally to win 7 - 5 but it should have been so much easier if we had played like we did earlier in the season.

If we are to progress higher in this division to challenge for promotion again we must get back to playing our passing football and supporting each other and playing as a team for the team.

EVERY PLAYER MUST WANT to PLAY for the TEAM and GIVE 100% otherwise let someone else have a chance.

There were some positives from the game apart from the win:

George scored 4 goals, Ben, Harry and Thomas all scored and the quality of the goals was good.

Jamie had a great game in the center of defence and deserved the Player Of the Match award.

Elle played well in goal despite the score line and competed well on pitch in the second half.

Ben played the second half in right midfield and did well.

Adam and George linked passes well in the second half.

I had a call from the Brookfield coach to say that their pitch is waterlogged, therefore the match this Saturday will be cancelled.

We will have a normal training session instead, 0930-1030 at the Deashanger Club.

What we are aiming to do this season is ensure that all of our player have involvement in an equal number of games and this is monitored quite carefully.

I don't consider any of the players to be "core" or otherwise, and I'm confident that they are all equally capable of stepping up to the challenge when required, wherever we place them.

With the number of available players, there are always plenty of subs to choose from and it is only fair to ensure they all get an even chance to participate and learn in th elive match situation.

With this approach we will eventually have a larger group of confident, experienced and capable players for future matches and the seasons ahead.

is it wise to rest 3 of our core players against such a strong team ?
is it ever wise to rest 3 core players at the same time - if we have a battle on the field who do we bring on as subs ??
We also have a numbers of players that only turn up for training once in blue moon and spend that time larking about yet still manage to get time on the pitch , this is demoralizing for the rest of the team .

The match is due to kick off at 0930, so we should leave Deanshanger at 0900 latest.

We played Brookfield Rangers on Saturday 29th November on a very cold morning.

Starting the game for Deanshanger were Ryan in goal, Joel, Josh and Oliver A in defence, Aiden and Toby on the midfield wings and Jesel as the centre forward.

After a few suggestions from my experienced team of official advisors, and also looking back at recent score-sheets, we decided to change the main role of the centre-midfield to central-defence, using Josh as the key player to block attacks and win the ball before it got too close to our goal.

The match started very quickly, and our defence were put to work early on by Brookfields attackers, but that said, our defenders were very sharp and soon got into the mode of winning the ball and making clearances.

Deanshanger put together some very promising attacks withour mid-fielders linking up well with Jesel. The passing was really working well and Aiden rather unluckily hit the post a couple of times.

Brookfield were not to be put off and, after a rather confused session in our goal area, were able to steal a goal - 0-1.

The Deanshanger team were not at all put off by this and within seconds of the game restarting, we saw great link up play between Toby, Jesel and Aiden's strike resulting in a goal for the Colts - 1-1

I think this quick reply was a great motivator for the Colts and the quality of play get even better as the first half progressed. All players were playing their part, Joel and AD linking up well to move the ball forward, Josh winning the ball and having a couple of good long range efforts at goal.

In his usual hard working style, we saw Jes giving the Brookfield defence a lot of problems and this eventually resulted in a goal, with AD providing good service into the box from the right wing. 2-1

Colts were not ready to rest and Oliver A made some good challenges and clearances to mid-field, Toby continue to work hard covering a lot of ground on the wing, trying hard to get into scoring positions. Another great foerward movement from Colts, the ball passed between , Joel, AD, Jesel, back to AD, into the box and Jesel was quickly on top of it to score his second - 3-1.

As we got toward the end of the first half, Brookfield pushed a lot of players forward, flooding the Colts' penalty area and in the confusion netted their second goal. the score at half time was 3-2.

For the second half, we had Oliver A in goal, Ryan, Josh and Matty in defence, Oliver F and Micheal in mid-field and Jesel as centre-forward.

Brookfield started the half quickly attacking and getting an early goal to level the score 3-3.

The match continued with more pressure from Brookfield forcing our defenders to work hard. Ryan was working hard to win the ball and made some great forward clearances. Matty equally was key on a number of occasions, blocking the attack, winning the ball, clearing forward and even blocking a couple of shots off the line!

Micheal, Oliver F and Jesel soon got into their stride, moving and passing exceptionally well and creating scoring opportunities, which resulted in a well taken goal from Oliver F - 4-3.

The attacking work continued, with Colts owrking hard to keep the ball in the Brookfield half and I particulary noticed Michael very composed and passing well around the box. Fergie and Jes linked up well, confusing the defenders and resulting in Jes netting his third of the match - 5-3!

As the half progressed, AD came on for Josh nad Toby for Jesel.

The Colts were now focussed on maintaining their lead and the game progressed with Deanshanger confortable in posession, winning the ball well in defence and playing the ball forward well.

The match ended with the 5-3 scoreline. An excellent performance by the Colts against a strong Brookfield team. One or two minor errors could have avoided us conceding goals or scoring even more!

One area to work on for all our team is to notice how challenging the opposition players at every opportunity can make their ability to attack much more difficult - we should continue to do this. Also, the fantastic passing movement we saw in this match from every player really needs to be congratualted and encouraged.

Special thanks to our volunteers, and to the Brookfield team, officials and supporters, who were a great bunch.

We play the same team awawy next week - don't take it for granted that it will be easy as they now know what we are capable of delivering and will adjust their tactics to make life difficult!

The Mustangs Under 11's played their seventh league game of the season against Olney Town Arrows

Players for the Mustangs were:

It was a very cold morning and an early start with a 9:30 kick off but the team cannot use another cold morning and an early start as an excuse for why we did not perform for the first half. Olney had to travel to Deanshanger and arrived at 9:00 ready for the game and were much better than us in the first half.

The Mustangs

We started with Elle in goal, Ben center of defence, Joshua D left defence, Charlie right defence, Adam left wing, Thomas and Harry center of midfield and Jamie right midfield with George up front.

Within the first two minutes the Mustangs did not focus on the game and were 1 - 0 down to poor TEAM defending giving Elle no chance in goal.

There was a lack of urgency, no marking and too many players did not look interested or committed with their heads down and we were lucky that the Arrows missed a couple of easy chances and Elle pulled off several brave and several great saves.

Slowly we worked our way back into the game but the early goal did not make it easy. We struggled to pass the ball and most players energy levels disappeared very early.

Samuel replace Charlie, Callum on for Adam, Joshua W on for Jamie, Callum then went into defence for Joshua D, George moved into left midfield and Sid went up front.

Olney put us under a lot of pressure for the first 15 minutes and increased their lead to 2 - 0 before half time and we created very few clear chances in the first half until very late on.

Second half started more evenly and we looked more interested in a game now with Sid in goal, Ben center of defence, Elle left defence, Charlie right defence, Adam left wing, Thomas and Harry center of midfield and Jamie right midfield with George up front.

Arrows scored the third goal after a lot more pressure to go 3 - 0 up but we were now competing and creating our own chances which we should have scored from.

Sid made two great saves diving at players feet bravely to keep us in with a slim chance.

A good move and an excellent through ball from Harry set George on his way and this time he scored to make it 3 - 1.

Samuel replaced Charlie, Elle moved into left midfield for Adam, Callum came into left defence for Elle and Joshua D replaced Jamie in right midfield.

We were now putting the Arrows under a lot of pressure and started to keep the ball in their half for a change and were rewarded with our second goal from another good team move with George getting his and the teams second goal of the game to make it 3 - 2.

Jamie came on for Samuel in defence along side Callum as Ben pushed into midfield to help find another goal.

For the last 10 minutes we seemed to create more chances than the rest of the game put together with the Arrows on the back foot scrambling the ball clear or blocking shots, struggling to get the ball inside our half.

If we had played the whole game like the last 20 minutes we would have probably got a draw if not more but over the whole 60 minutes the Arrows played better than us, worked harder than us and deserved their win.

Lessons to be learnt

a) Every player MUST WANT to play else there is no point going onto the pitch

b) Every player MUST take responsibility for their role and want the ball

c) Every player MUST play for the TEAM and give 100% from the first whistle to the last whistle and never give up
